Hello everyone! Self Love. Do you love yourself? There was a great period in my life that I could truthfully say, No! I don’t love myself. Today I can say I’m learning to love myself and to be my best friend. How can we claim to love others if we don’t love ourselves? Can you really love someone else and not love yourself?
As a small child I learned to hate myself. I was a chubby child and my family was very mentally and verbally abusive. Of course they say it was tough love, but to be called out of one’s name constantly, talked about amongst family like I wasn’t there and embarrassed around strangers wasn’t a good character builder. It was extreme, mean and cruel. I have forgiven their behavior. I now know that I’m loved. Jesus died for me, he loves me! I’m learning to love myself because he loves me, he’s the perfect example and teacher! Glory to God!
When we abuse ourselves with poor diets, poor hygiene, drugs, fornication, cutting our flesh, letting others abuse us and so much more we are destroying God’s creation. We all belong to God and when we leave this earthly body to God will our soul return. God has blessed me to turn from my gluttonous ways, I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’m still losing. I’m eating healthier and becoming more active. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens the me.” Philippians 4:13 KJV
I ask the question again, can you love your neighbor without having love for yourself?
“And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 KJV
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:34-35 KJV
