Encourage Yourself in the Lord

There are times when you don’t feel encouraged. Encourage Yourself in the Lord. A lot may be going on and it feels like relief will never come. That is the time to encourage yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to provide you with encouragement. Here are some ways of providing that encouragement we all need. There are tools that are very helpful.

Song of Praise

Sing a song of praise. I have some songs that I can listen to when I am going through. One of them is “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood. I find that song to be so moving. I sing along and repeat the song feeling encouraged in my spirit that things will be okay if I keep fighting. Praise music lifts the spirit and puts your focus on above. There are a lot of them. Look for some and have them in your arsenal to fight.

Prayer is very important. Prayer is talking to God. Sometimes you have to let out your emotions about how you’re feeling. Crying out to God for help can give you that relief you are looking for at that time. We are at war daily. Fighting for our souls. We must do what we can do to help ourselves.

Encourage Yourself in the Lord: Study the Word of God

Studying the Word of God is important. There are lots of scriptures that provide encouragement. The book of Psalms is full of encouraging words. One scripture that I frequently use is “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 KJV Paul wrote those words and I will repeat those words in my spirit and find encouragement to make it through. That is a great scripture to memorize for when times are tough or simply when you find something difficult to do.

In the 30th chapter of book of 1 Samuel David was going through some extreme stress and pressure during war. He encouraged himself in the Lord. He did not wait for someone else to give him the encouragement he needed. David wrote a lot of the Psalms. He was a man of war and he found his encouragement in the Lord. He was a man of God most of all. Using the tools will help you get the encouragement you need to not give up.

Wait on the Lord

“3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. 4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. 6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” 1 Samuel 30:3-6 KJV

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalms 27:14 KJV
