The Cult: Did You Study?

Hello everyone! The Cult: Did You Study? Stand Up if You Studied. That is not a sentence you should hear from a spiritual “leader”, speaking to adults. That’s right the Adult Bible Class! The “leader” asked a couple of members questions from the current Bible Lesson. They couldn’t answer his question. He wanted to know if they had studied their lesson. When he was told no, he became agitated. He then asked everyone that had studied their lesson to stand. He carefully began to look over everyone standing up. They were then told to be seated. Those who hadn’t studied were told to stand and he again took inventory. The Cult: Did You Study?

The Guilt Trip!

That was the beginning of a speech full of rhetoric and condemnation. It was the ultimate guilt trip. We were told about the hours that he had spent studying and preparing our Bible Lesson. It was all about him. Whether we’d taken the time to study his Bible Lesson that week had absolutely nothing to do with our salvation. Not studying a Bible Lesson that week wouldn’t keep us out of heaven.

Those who hadn’t studied were guilty of in his opinion disrespecting his time spent preparing the lesson. God was not displeased because of a lack of study of his Bible Lesson. We study the word of God, the word of truth. There is no requirement to faithfully study a Bible Lesson a man has written for you. Be led by the Holy Spirit my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

Did you study

Study that Lesson

Time spent studying your Bible Lesson will not get you into heaven. It simply will not! A Bible Lesson content can be erroneous and misleading, who is the author of the lesson? There are many who study constantly. They can quote many scriptures and do not know or have a relationship with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They do not know him!

Power and control have been tools of choice for many so-called “leaders.” Guilt trips. But no man using these tactics is doing this work for God. I remember feeling nothing was ever enough. I felt doomed often. That I just couldn’t do enough to make it to heaven or please God. Who could possibly be saved? It was a very legalistic assembly. Not concerning sin but so many do not that have absolutely nothing to do with the Gospel of Jesus Christ or Salvation. It weighs the people down. This should not be! “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1 NKJV

This topic can be very extensive but I’m going to stop here. I want to provoke you to think and be led by the Holy Spirit. Be much encouraged my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus!
